Orlando Acosta Announces Candidacy for St. Petersburg City Council, District 3


St Petersburg, FL – This afternoon, Orlando Acosta announced to friends and supporters that he will run for St. Petersburg City Council in District 3. In his announcement, he stressed the importance of representing the values of St. Petersburg voters.


“St. Petersburg deserves a choice,” said Acosta. “I’m running to ensure that every voter can cast their ballot for someone who represents their values. I believe the diversity of St. Petersburg is our strength – and if you agree with me, I’m asking for your vote.”


Acosta is a combat veteran who received the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan. After his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, Acosta began working on issues related to military intelligence and technology.  He has served as President of the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg Sunset, is a member of the St. Petersburg High School Advisory Committee, a Boy Scout leader, and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce.  He is also a graduate of Leadership St. Pete 2015.


“I’m proud of St. Pete, and proud to call it my home,” Acosta said. “This is a great city – but there’s more we can do to reach our full potential. For me, it starts with leaders who share our values, who serve all our residents, and who create opportunity, promote success, and foster happiness for everyone.”
